This Week in Kindergarten
It has been an exciting first week of Kindergarten following our staggered entry days.
Our Kindergarten students have done amazing learning our new classroom routines. We have become Kindergarten experts in finding our coat hooks, changing our shoes, looking at our schedule and following the classroom daily plan.
This week the students had gym time, went to their first music class and even visited the Library to do a book exchange. We even were able to go outside for fresh air and some playground time.
In the classroom, we have been learning all about what it means to be a good classmate. We have been learning each others names, practicing inviting others to play, introducing ourselves and participating with our classmates in songs, stories and group activities.
We practiced writing our names on whiteboards, read stories about starting school and even had time to work in our writing journals.
As a group we learned all about "Mat Man" and how we can draw people using pre-writing shapes and lines.
During centre times, we had lots of opportunities to build new friendships while engaging in purposeful play. Kindergarten students loved "cooking" in the kitchen centre, building giant forts and garages in the block centre, looked for jewels in the sand box, read stories in our cozy cube, created "the longest train track in the whole world" and painted lots and lots and lots of masterpieces, among other things.
Students have been learning about using classroom materials carefully and purposefully and have become sensational in understanding how to work together to clean up at the end of our centre time.
It has been wonderful spending time getting to know each student this week and watching just how excited they are to come to school, see their classmates and learn new things.
Next week we will be learning about "What makes us Unique" and we will be starting to learn about and explore Patterns.
Next Friday the PM Kindergarten class attends.
A Few Important Notes/Reminders:
PM Library Day/Book Exchange is Tuesday
AM Library Day/Book Exchange is Thursday
- Please try to remember to label your child's personal items (backpacks, lunch bags, coats) so we can identify items easily and ensure they do not get mixed up
- We love to go outside to explore and learn throughout the week- please dress your child appropriately for the weather- so we can all be comfortable outside.
- The Terry Fox Run will be happening at our school September 19th. We will have more information coming in the next week.
Have a great weekend!
