This week in Kindergarten, we danced and danced and danced!
What a thrilling week practicing and preforming our class dance for our families and friends. We had spent lots of time learning new moves, working together as a class, and moving and grooving to the music with Ms. Allara and it all paid off. We were very grateful for the experience and I know that we will likely all be continuing to do the "ants in our pants" dance move throughout the year as it is just lots of fun to do!
Thank you to all of our families who were able to come watch and cheer us on and also for letting us show off our moves at home too!
This week we have been exploring and observing the seasonal changes happening outside. We welcomed October by spending time outside collecting leaves and other treasures on our Leaf Hunt making leaf prints, sorting and describing leaves, drawing our favourite things to do in the fall and writing about what we are thankful for.
We continued to show our Pattern Master skills as we created our very own "Pattern Snakes". We can identify the "core" of a pattern and can tell you our pattern's name! We know all about AB and ABC patterns. Some friends were very excited to label their pattern snakes with their "pattern name" and many friends were eager to challenge themselves to make patterns with very complex "cores"- some with 4 or 5 different colours! Wow! We all had fun sharing our Patterns Snakes with our classmates to see if they could guess our "Pattern Rule". Our friends also were able to check to see if our pattern was correct.
We also began our new math journals. We are learning how to record numbers in different ways. We have started to show the numbers 1 and 2 in digits, pictures and on a ten-frame. Ask your kindergartener if they remember how to make a 2!
Our centre times have been very full with play happening at our dramatic play restaurant, building marble runs, exploring our nature science table, using stencils and letter cards at our writing centre, designing ramps and tunnels at the block centre and making prints at the art table.
Next week, we will continue to work in our math journals, visit and name our own class tree on the school property, and begin to dive into our "All about Me" unit in social studies.
Please continue to send your child dressed for the weather as we like to get out and soak up the sunshine and make observations about the season whenever we can. Also, if your student has not yet brought shoes to be kept at school as "indoor shoes", please do so as soon as possible.
As always, thank you for your continued support! Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Here are some pictures of our week!
