November 27- December 1

 Hello Families!

It's December now! Wow!

It was a fantastically exciting week in Kindergarten as we discovered our mushy old pumpkin has finally sprouted! We spotted the tiniest bit of green popping up on Tuesday, and by the end of the week our little pumpkin baby was growing like crazy! So far our new baby pumpkin plant is named "Little Greeny" and we are loving to watch it change day by day.  We can see the roots growing deep down, and we love to move his bucket into the sunlight so he can soak up the daytime sun and we make sure he is watered everyday.

This week we learned all about the letter I and how it makes two different sounds.  We listened to identify words with the letter I and practiced printing the letter I in our Letter Journals.  Our word of the week was "Independent" and we shared all the ways we can be independent at home and at school.  Some students shared that they are independent when they "clean up after snack" and "build big marble runs at center time".  Another student shared that they are "independent when they clean up their room and make their bed".  In our classroom students were very excited to notice their own independence while they were packing up their backpacks, zipping up their own coats, and remembering to put their library books in the library box without being reminded.  We all noticed lots of ways that we are becoming more and more independent in Kindergarten- and that makes us feel proud!

We also played a new number game practicing counting up and down, and we added the number 7 to our number journals.  We combined our letter I and the number 7 by creating some "Math Art".  A gigantic "Super Seven Scooper" ice cream cone!  We could write the numbers 1-7 all by ourselves and we could put them on our cone in the correct order.  Our Super Seven Scooper ice creams look delicious.

Mr. Arcila taught us about our sense of hearing this week as we continued to learn about our 5 senses.  We went on a "Listening Walk" in our school to practice using our "listening skills" by noticing and identifying different sounds around the building.  We also learned about how our sense of hearing can help to keep us safe, and give us lots of important information.  This week we also visited the sensory room this week- which was a full experience for our senses.  We LOVED checking out this amazing space- especially watching the bubbles in the bubble tube and feeling the vibrations through our hands.  Our senses are so incredible as they help us experience our world.

Our PM class was able to have Buddy time on Friday- we went on an alphabet scavenger hunt in the school together.  We worked together to find all 26 letters and practiced identifying each letter and sound.  Our Buddies helped to record them for us.  The AM class will get to do this activity with their Buddy very soon.  We are so grateful to have such amazing Big Buddies.  We ended our week making soft, squishy playdoh- following the recipe very carefully and working together, taking turns making it just perfect.  We also did a super fun experiment called "Magic Milk".  You can ask your Kindergarten all about it!

Thank you for continuing to send your child dressed for the weather.  We have been loving all of the sunshine we have been getting, and try to go outside a little bit everyday!  Thank you for continuing to support your child's learning.  Here are some pictures from our week!
